Precision Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Tests Offered:
Biomarker Testing
A biomarker is a biological molecule found in our bodies that can tell us if something is normal or not. Biomarkers have become part of the molecular tests we use to determine your risk of aggressive prostate cancer, and if you are at high risk you may benefit from a prostate biopsy and further testing to allow for early detection and treatment.
Prostate biomarker testing may be ordered if you have:
- Elevated PSA level
- Abnormal physical exam findings
- A family history of prostate cancer
- Other factors that may put you at elevated risk such as age or ethnic background
SelectMDx is a urine-based test which helps determine your risk of aggressive prostate cancer, and whether a biopsy and/or treatment may be necessary.
This is a private pay test. Please check your insurance plan for coverage.

Genetic Testing
DNA is the unique code that holds the instructions for your body’s functions. Based on your personal and family history of cancer, you may benefit from genetic testing that studies your DNA using a saliva or blood sample. Testing looks for gene changes (variants) that are linked to certain diseases or cancer types.
Genetic testing may confirm a clinical diagnosis and guide treatment and management decisions. At-risk relatives may also be identified, allowing pursuit of a diagnostic evaluation, early detection and improved clinical outcome.

Transperineal Prostate Biopsy
Transperineal prostate biopsy is performed in men with a suspicion of prostate cancer. This suspicion may be due to an elevated prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test, elevated risk result on prostate cancer biomarker testing, abnormal examination, or recommendation as per prostate imaging findings.
Advantages of the transperineal biopsy approach include decreased infection rates, higher sampling accuracy, and ability to target lesions with MRI fusion when indicated.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
What is DNA?

Based on your personal and family history of cancer, you may benefit from genetic testing that studies your DNA using a saliva or blood sample. Testing looks for gene changes (variants) that are linked to certain diseases or cancer types.
What are the benefits of genetic testing?
There are numerous advantages of finding out if one has a genetic mutation linked to prostate cancer to include:
- Making informed health choices, including options to prevent cancer
- Detecting cancer at an earlier and more treatable stage
- Assessing your risk of future cancers
- May prompt genetic testing of other family members and if they test positive, they may wish to undergo prostate cancer screening starting at an earlier age than men with no family history.
What is PSA and how is it connected to prostate cancer?
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced within the prostate gland. PSA is mostly found in semen, but small amounts can also be found in the blood of healthy men. PSA levels naturally increase as men age because the prostate naturally enlarges over time. There are many reasons why PSA levels fluctuate, and higher levels may indicate the presence of prostate cancer or other prostate conditions (i.e. enlargement and inflammation).
